ESSENCE Festival 2026 Announces First Wave of Performers, Leading with the Ladies

The first wave of performers for the 2026 ESSENCE Festival of Culture has been announced, and the message is clear: the women who shaped the culture are still leading it.

Presented by Coca-Cola, the festival revealed the first artists scheduled for its signature Evening Concert Series at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The Wave 1 lineup celebrates powerhouse performers across generations of music, highlighting women whose artistry has defined and expanded the sound of contemporary Black culture.

The initial lineup includes Cardi B, Latto, Kehlani, Brandy and Monica performing together, and the legendary Patti LaBelle.

Two of the night’s most anticipated moments will come from festival newcomers Cardi B and Latto, both making their ESSENCE Festival debuts on the Superdome stage. Known for chart topping hits and unapologetic personalities, the two rappers represent the current generation of artists shaping hip hop and pop culture.

R&B fans will also see the return of Grammy Award winning vocalists Brandy and Monica to the festival, both of whom careers have spanned decades and whose influence continues to resonate with audiences today. Kehlani, one of the most recognizable voices in modern R&B, will join the lineup as well, bringing her emotionally charged performances and genre blending sound to the festival stage.

Then there is Patti LaBelle, a performer whose career stretches more than six decades. Known for her powerhouse vocals and magnetic stage presence, LaBelle remains one of the most celebrated icons in American music. Her return to the ESSENCE stage reflects the festival’s ongoing commitment to honoring the legends who paved the way while spotlighting the artists shaping the future.

While the nighttime concerts command the spotlight inside the Superdome, the daytime programming across the city is where the broader experience of ESSENCE Festival unfolds. Much of that activity takes place at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, where attendees can explore a wide range of cultural programming that is free and open to the public.

Among the highlights is the ESSENCE Food & Wine Festival, which brings together celebrated chefs and culinary voices for conversations about food, heritage, and the flavors that define New Orleans. BEAUTYCON: ESSENCEFEST Edition returns with panels and brand activations focused on the intersection of beauty, entrepreneurship, and Black creativity. The ESSENCE Film Festival will showcase films by Black directors and storytellers, while SOKO MRKT by ESSENCE highlights Black owned businesses and entrepreneurs in a vibrant marketplace environment.

Additional programming includes the ESSENCE Stage, featuring discussions with cultural leaders and innovators, and the ESSENCE Book Festival, where prominent literary voices gather to discuss the ideas shaping this moment in Black culture.

Organizers say this announcement is only the beginning. Additional artists and programming will be revealed in the weeks ahead as the full 2026 lineup takes shape.

The festival will take place July 3 – 5, 2026, continuing its tradition as one of the largest celebrations of Black music, culture, and community in the world. Early access three day ticket packages are currently available through Ticketmaster, and attendees can download the official E360 app to plan their festival experience.

For many attendees, the weekend is more than a concert series. It is a cultural homecoming set in the heart of New Orleans, where music, food, conversation, and community come together to celebrate the culture that ESSENCE has championed for decades.
