7 BIPOC & AAPI Events and Showcases to Experience at SXSW 2026

From cross‑cultural music showcases to film community meetups and cultural houses, SXSW’s ecosystem each year includes a vibrant mix of official events and independent activations. Below are six experiences worth checking out during SXSW 2026 — from live music to community connections.

1. Taiwan Beats

The Taiwan Beats Showcase and Day Party is one of SXSW’s most anticipated international music showcases, bringing Taiwanese artists to Austin to share the island’s bold and evolving sound with global audiences. In 2026 the showcase takes place at Venue 6 (The Venue ATX) with a full day of programming including an industry‑focused Day Party and an evening performance spotlighting six acts.

📍 Venue 6 (The Venue ATX), 516 E. 6th Street

Expect a dynamic lineup from Taiwanese music scenes blending hip‑hop, rock, electronica and more — plus networking opportunities for music professionals. 

This event is part of Taiwan Beats’ long‑running project to export Taiwanese music internationally and has become a stand‑out highlight during SXSW’s Music Festival. 

2. Dream Con Music Showcase

The Dream Con Music Showcase marks Dream Con’s first official SXSW music event during the 2026 festival. According to the event’s creators, this showcase is part of Dream Con’s broader cultural programming, bringing live music to SXSW audiences with performances throughout SXSW weekend.

📍 Rivière, 1501 E.  7th Street

The Dream Con community plays host to curated live music, celebrating creativity, diversity, and emerging voices within the broader SXSW lineup. 

This showcase signals Dream Con’s expansion into music and aligns with SXSW’s culture‑forward ethos.

3. DAWA Vision 8291

DAWA’s Vision:8291 is a four‑day cultural experience during SXSW that blends music, panel discussions, live podcasts, film screenings, community conversations, and cultural leadership programming. The week culminates with the Unity Showcase featuring live performances.

📍 Almost Real Things Gallery, 2324 E  Cesar Chavez Street

This series offers a rich intersection of artistic performances and conversations centered on BIPOC culture, innovation, and creative leadership. 

Vision:8291 has grown into a hub for community while aligning with SXSW’s mission to elevate diverse voices.

4. Auntie’s House

While Auntie’s House does not yet have an official SXSW schedule listing, the concept connects to the tradition of South Asian House and similar cultural house gatherings that bring together South Asian and AAPI community members, artists, and professionals during SXSW. Similar activations have featured panels, networking, DJ sets, live music, and cultural exchange events during SXSW week.

Auntie’s House is expected to be a welcoming space for community connection, creativity, and cultural celebration.

5. Kinky, Curly, Coily Showcase

The Kinky, Curly, Coily Showcase celebrates Black artistry and culture with live performance and community energy. According to event organizers, this showcase is scheduled during SXSW and highlights Black creatives from music, performance, and culture.

📍 Pershing, 2415 E  5th Street

Expect a night of music, storytelling, and celebration where Black artistry takes center stage. 

6. Indie Meme South Asian Film Meetup

The Indie Meme South Asian Film Meetup is part of the community gathering scene around SXSW, organized by Indie Meme — Texas’s only South Asian film festival — bringing filmmakers, fans, and creatives together to celebrate South Asian cinema. 

🗓 March 15, 2026

📍 Whitis- Omni Downtown, 700 San Jacinto Blvd.

This meetup offers screenings, conversations, and community engagement around South Asian film storytelling and creative exchange. 

7. BigXthaPlug at Rolling Stone’s Future of Music

BigXthaPlug will headline Rolling Stone’s Future of Music

Texas artist, BigXthaPlug, will bring his Southern hip-hop sound to SXSW. The Dallas rapper is part of the festival’s official showcases and represents the growing presence of BIPOC artists on global stages.
