ABC Kite Fest Returns to Zilker Park with Family-Friendly Fun on April 11

Spring in Austin means one thing: kites filling the sky over Zilker Park. The beloved ABC Kite Fest is back on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., bringing with it a full day of free, family-friendly programming and community celebration.

As one of the largest and longest-running kite festivals in the country, the event continues its decades-long tradition of gathering Austinites for a day of outdoor fun, just two years shy of its 100th anniversary.

“ABC Kite Fest has been bringing families together since before Zilker Park even had a bike trail,” said Bobby Jenkins, owner of ABC Home & Commercial Services and the event’s title sponsor. “I want every family in Austin to come out, fly a kite and be part of this event’s history.”

What to Expect at ABC Kite Fest 2026

This year’s festival features a mix of classic traditions and interactive experiences designed for all ages.

The highlight of the day is the Exchange Club Kite Contest & Showcase, a free, community-wide competition open to participants of all skill levels. Categories range from “most unusual kite” to “highest angle kite,” with both handmade and store-bought creations welcome. The contest begins with registration at 11 a.m., followed by official judging from 1 to 5 p.m. on the Great Lawn. Attendees can also watch professional kite flyers showcase large-scale, artistic designs throughout the day.

Families can head to MossFest, a children’s concert celebrating music, creativity, and community. Hosted by the Moss Pieratt Foundation, the concert honors the legacy of John “Moss” Pieratt Jr. and features performances from local favorites including Tio Toto, Mr. Will, and Saul Paul, along with appearances from the Barton Hills Choir and The Ollie & Sara Show.

For younger attendees, the Kids Club offers a full day of free activities, including bounce houses, face painting, and interactive entertainment. Meanwhile, the Pet Zone invites animal lovers to enjoy an off-leash playground, pet-friendly vendors, and even caricature artists for four-legged guests. A rock climbing wall will also be available for those looking for a more active challenge.

Shoppers can explore the Mini Market, a curated pop-up featuring women-owned small businesses, local artisans, and vendors offering everything from clothing and accessories to home decor and beauty products.

For those looking to elevate their experience, the High Flyer Club offers VIP access with perks like early entry, prepaid parking, specialty food options, and private air-conditioned restrooms.

Getting There and Planning Ahead

Due to the popularity of the event, attendees planning to park at Zilker Park must purchase prepaid parking in advance. Shuttle passes, rideshare options, and bike routes are also encouraged as convenient alternatives.

The festival continues its partnership with Texas Disposal Systems to maintain the cleanliness and sustainability of the park, reinforcing a shared commitment to preserving one of Austin’s most iconic green spaces.

A Nearly 100-Year Tradition

Founded in 1929 by the Exchange Club of Austin, ABC Kite Fest has grown into a hallmark spring event that attracts thousands each year. With its blend of tradition, community spirit, and family-friendly programming, the festival remains a staple of Austin culture.

As the event approaches its centennial milestone, organizers invite both longtime attendees and first-time visitors to take part in a day that celebrates creativity, connection, and the simple joy of flying a kite.
