University of Texas women’s basketball star Madison Booker has been named one of five finalists for the prestigious John R. Wooden Award, recognizing the most outstanding women’s college basketball player in the United States. The announcement, made by the Los Angeles Athletic Club, also includes Booker among this year’s Wooden All-Americans, marking her second consecutive season earning both honors.
Booker’s standout performance throughout the 2025–2026 season has solidified her as one of the most dominant players in college basketball. A First Team AP All-American, she has been instrumental in leading the Texas Longhorns to their second straight Final Four appearance, further cementing her legacy within the program.
Her postseason performance has been particularly impressive. Booker was named Most Valuable Player of the SEC Tournament and earned Most Outstanding Player honors at the Fort Worth Regional. She delivered one of the most memorable moments of the NCAA Tournament during the second round, where she scored a program-record 40 points in a single game, setting a new benchmark for Texas women’s basketball.
Across four NCAA Tournament games this year, Booker has scored a combined 90 points while maintaining an efficient 58.6 percent shooting from the field. Her consistency and scoring ability have been key factors in Texas’ deep tournament run.
Booker’s impact extends beyond a single postseason. She has accumulated 732 points this season, ranking fourth in Texas program history for single-season scoring. Her career totals are equally impressive, as she now sits fifth on the program’s all-time scoring list with 1,963 points.
In addition to her scoring prowess, Booker has made history as the first player in Texas women’s basketball to record at least 1,900 points, 600 rebounds, and 400 assists. Her all-around performance highlights her versatility and leadership on the court, setting her apart from her peers.
She also continues to climb the NCAA Tournament record books. Booker has scored 228 career points in tournament play, the second-highest total in Texas history, trailing only Clarissa Davis. Her ability to perform under pressure has been a defining aspect of her collegiate career.
Another remarkable milestone came as Booker became the first player in NCAA Tournament history to record multiple games with at least 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists without committing a single turnover. This level of efficiency underscores her basketball IQ and composure in high-stakes moments.
As a finalist for the Wooden Award, Booker will attend the annual Wooden Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on April 9 and 10. The winner will be announced during the 50th anniversary celebration, which will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
With her record-breaking season and continued excellence on the national stage, Madison Booker has firmly established herself as one of the brightest stars in women’s college basketball.
